Intro to Installation 101

We have chalk lines to make sure we're putting them in straight (the lines only look crooked because of the photo)

Once the piece is in we wet it so we can cut through the paper and press all the pieces down

The next day we wet the paper again to loosen the glue and remove it

Once the paper is off  we start grouting. We are using three colours of grout for this project so the dark spots stay dark and the light spots stay light

On the last day, Mike caulks the border. This allows for a consistent  frame that won`t crack

And we are all finished!

Final Exams

Peeling off the last of the paper

End of day 5, it might look done but we still have over half to grout

A little monster

A big one

Our last day (day 7), Mike caulks the frame

End of the week, the piece is completed!

Third Quarter

Anne Marie's signature in the reflection

We might be getting close to the top but we are still near the bottom when it comes to sponging off the paper

Only five more pieces left

Deux...

Our final piece brings us to the fourth quarter; cleaning and grouting

End of day 3!

Midterms

We have to sponge the paper off with water, as difficult and tedious as it seems

It's time for Mortar Mike to mix some mortar

The scissor lift; when scaffolding poses a problem for lazy people

This would be a pretty cool bar for East Lansing but impressively, it's the dorm restaurant!

End  of day two!

First Day of School

The lobby!

So we have to keep this place nice

Our first piece

We don't normally face mount with paper but because of the unevenness of the surface, this method works best

Because the ceramic pieces are hand made, they can be uneven and require extra mortar

End of day one!
